Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh recently addressed a two-day hybrid conference organized by Government Degree College in Doda. During his speech, he pointed to the lavender revolution in Bhaderwah-Doda as a demonstration of the power of science-led rural entrepreneurship. He stated that Doda district holds significant potential to emerge as a unique hub for startups and innovation in the Himalayan region.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who also serves as the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, Atomic Energy, and Space, highlighted the transformative impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He explained that NEP 2020 has democratized aptitude-based learning, enabling students from tier-2 and tier-3 towns like Doda to compete on an equal footing with peers in metropolitan areas.
The policy breaks away from the rigidity of conventional education by allowing students to choose subjects based on their aptitude rather than compulsion. It shifts the focus of higher education from merely obtaining degrees to developing skills, fostering innovation, and encouraging entrepreneurship.
Dr Jitendra Singh noted that a degree is no longer viewed as a trophy, and employment is not limited to government jobs. Instead, the policy prepares India's youth for the emerging knowledge economy by emphasizing skill development and innovation.
The conference in Doda reflects ongoing efforts to promote education, entrepreneurship, and scientific advancement in the region, aligning with broader national goals to support rural development and innovation ecosystems beyond major urban centers.
