The increase in smartphone and tablet prices in India highlights the direct impact of global supply chain challenges and rising component costs on consumer electronics. As memory chip prices rise due to demand from AI data centers, manufacturers pass these costs to consumers, affecting affordability and purchasing decisions. Monitoring such trends is important for buyers and industry stakeholders alike.
In India, prominent smartphone and tablet manufacturers such as Samsung, Vivo, OnePlus, and Poco have increased prices on several of their devices. The primary reason cited for these hikes is the rising cost of memory components like DRAM (RAM) and NAND flash storage. The growing demand for memory chips in AI data centers has contributed to this price escalation, which is now impacting consumer electronics.
Samsung has notably raised prices on multiple models. For example, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy M47 now costs more than at launch: the 6GB + 128GB variant increased from ₹25,999 to ₹32,999, the 8GB + 128GB variant from ₹28,999 to ₹36,999, and the 8GB + 256GB variant from ₹33,999 to ₹41,999. These updated prices are reflected on Samsung’s official website.
OnePlus has also adjusted tablet prices. The OnePlus Pad Go 2 8GB + 128GB Wi-Fi variant is now priced at ₹29,999, up from ₹26,999 at launch. The OnePlus Pad Lite’s starting price rose by ₹4,000, from ₹15,999 to ₹19,999.
Poco increased prices on several smartphones as well. The Poco X8 Pro Max now starts at ₹46,999, while the Poco X8 Pro 8GB + 256GB variant is priced at ₹36,999. The budget Poco M8 saw price increases of up to ₹2,000 depending on the variant.
Vivo revised prices for its smartphones too. The Vivo T5 Pro 8GB + 128GB variant increased from ₹32,999 to ₹35,999, and the 8GB + 256GB variant now costs ₹39,999. The Vivo T5x 8GB + 128GB variant rose by ₹1,000 to ₹27,999, and the Vivo T4 Lite 4GB + 64GB variant increased by ₹2,000 to ₹16,999.
These price changes reflect the broader impact of rising memory chip costs on the smartphone and tablet market. Consumers intending to purchase these devices should verify the latest prices to make informed decisions.
