Zero Point Cryogenics (ZPC), a manufacturer specializing in quantum cryogenics systems, has announced the opening of its first international innovation and service hub in Chicago. Located at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP), the new facility will offer installation, maintenance, and technical support services for ZPC's cryogenic systems throughout the United States. This move marks ZPC's initial expansion beyond its Canadian headquarters in Alberta.
The Chicago hub aims to enhance ZPC's collaboration with government agencies, research institutions, and the quantum technology sector in the US. These partnerships are expected to accelerate the commercialization of cryogenic infrastructure critical to the development of quantum technologies. Despite the expansion, ZPC plans to maintain its primary manufacturing and engineering operations in Canada.
The announcement was made during the second annual Global Quantum Forum in Chicago, with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker present. The development of the innovation hub is supported by the state's Manufacturing Illinois Chips for Real Opportunity (MIRCO) Act, which provides tax incentives to companies involved in manufacturing chips, semiconductors, quantum computers, or related components.
Under its agreement with the state, ZPC is committed to creating 21 jobs at the Chicago hub by October 2030 and making a significant capital investment, reportedly in the millions of dollars. This expansion is part of a broader plan by ZPC to establish additional hubs in the US, Europe, and Asia, while retaining its core manufacturing base in Canada.
ZPC is one of only six companies worldwide producing this type of cryogenic system, positioning it as a key player in the quantum technology supply chain. The Chicago hub will support the growing demand for cryogenic infrastructure necessary for advancing quantum computing and related fields.
